One new feature that is beginning to emerge from Blu-Ray authoring is BD-J scripting. The Java scripting of menus in Blu-Ray authoring opens up a whole new window of opportunities like, meta data searching, internet access to additional content, advanced menus, and much more... NBS Studio now offers BD-J for Blu-Ray. BD-J features may not work on all Blu-Ray players and some features such as BD-Live require internet access. As BD-J is in its infancy not all Blu-Ray titles are being produced using this format. BD-J is the future of Blu-Ray but it is still early days and with any new technology BD-J for Blu-Ray will have some teething problems to resolve.

Blu-Ray authoring with Dolby Digital sound, Full HD (1920x1080) motion menus and Pop-up menus.

NBS Studio can Duplicate your Blu-Ray production at a Low Cost for small runs of between 1 to 500 copies.

One thing that needs to be taken in to consideration when producing Blu-Ray titles is Duplication or Replication. Duplicated discs are burnt discs and are known as BD-R or BD-RE. Older Blu-Ray players will need a firmware update (if available) to be able to play BD-R and BD-RE discs, but most Blu-Ray players on the market today can play these types of disc. Older Blu-Ray players may not have any option to update the firmware to play BD-R or BD-RE discs, so be aware when requesting Blu-Ray and check first with your Blu-Ray players specifications.

Blu-Ray Production for large volume Replication

For large numbers you will need to choose Blu-Ray Replication. NBS Studio has numerous contacts which we will contact to gain the best price for replicating your Blu-Ray discs. You would choose replication for 1,000 or more Blu-Ray copies.

Blu-Ray Production for low volume Duplication

For low runs of less than 1,000 Blu-Ray copies, duplication is required. NBS Studio uses the same methods of copying Blu-Ray as we do with our duplication service. Blu-Ray discs are slightly more expensive than DVD, so contact us for the best prices. Discs are currently inkjet printed to a high quality printable disc. Blu-Ray cases and Blu-Ray case inlays can also be supplied.

DVD & Blu-Ray combo discs

DVD/Blu-Ray combo discs are now available. These discs will allow both standard definition and high definition video to be burnt on to the same disc. This means that the disc will be compatible with both standard DVD or Blu-Ray players.

The Future of Blu-Ray

Capacity for Blu-Ray is 25Gb for a single layered disc and 50Gb for a double layered disc, but future capacity is expected to be 200Gb plus. Cheap backup media?

The future movement of Blu-Ray production is 3D. 3D Blu-Ray's should start hitting the shops by 2012, about the same time as 3D televisions that do not require special glasses to see the images in 3D.

Is HD or High Definition the final frontier for screen resolution? I do not believe so. Over the past couple of years we have seen the Internet being added to the interactivity of televisions with online streaming of video via such sources as the BBC's iPlayer. Internet based telecommunications like Skype will add Webcam facilities and instant messaging. With all of this being added over the next decade TV screens are set to get larger either on the wall or as a Holographic TV projected onto glass (maybe your house windows!). With larger screens will come larger than HD resolutions. 3K or 4K will be the next step. 3K and/or 4K DVD or Blu-Ray will be the future. Did I say DVD? Yup.. That's right DVD. The DVD consortium still has life left in itself and there are plans for 4K DVD. Yet another Blu-Ray DVD format war. The problem may be that the war may already be over. RED Digital Cinema, who produced the RED ONE Digital Cinema Camera, have produce a product called the RED Ray. The RED Ray is a player that can play 4K video from their own digital format, REDCODE.

What Type of Video does NBS Studio film with for producing a Blu-Ray?

The format you should choose is HD or High Definition. Video from Standard Definition can be used but it would require professional UP-REZZING to HD which is 4 times larger than SD. NBS Studio's special software that can do this. NBS Studio uses either; XDCAM-HD, DVCPRO-HD, the RED ONE, and coming soon the RED SCARLET.

I want the "FILM LOOK" for my Blu-Ray video.

NBS Studio can colour-correct pre-recorded images to give the "FILM LOOK", giving the video that atmospheric look as seen in Hollywood Blockbusters. What we can do as well is film your footage at the best quality that matches Film. NBS Studio can use the RED ONE Digital Cinema Camera to film 4K video that matches the quality of film. In fact the RED ONE has been used to should a large number of the latest big budget feature films like Tom Hanks "Angels & Demons", Matt Damon "Green Zone", and Hayden Christensen "Jumper". Even Peter Jackson's "The Hobbit" is to be filmed using RED Digital Cinema cameras like the new EPIC & SCARLET. Low cost 3K filming using the SCARLET coming soon.

NBS Studio always goes the Extra Mile when it comes to video production.
